Field Trips That Make a Difference: Summer Scholars 2024 Adventures

Scholars facing their fears!

This year’s Summer Scholars camp was packed with unforgettable field trips that brought excitement and joy to our campers. We ventured to places like Action Territory, Bay Beach, Round One, the museum, Chuck E. Cheese, Monkey Joe's, Butler Skate Land, movie theaters, and Swing Time Miniature Golf. We even hosted our very own carnival! These trips provided our students with new experiences and opportunities to explore beyond their daily routines.

The Thrill of Bay Beach

One of our most popular trips is always Bay Beach. It’s a place where the kids can enjoy roller coasters, go-karts, and the concession stands, or simply relax at the park. With rides for all ages, from small kid-friendly coasters to thrilling big kid rides, everyone had a blast. The highlight was definitely seeing our seventh and eighth graders scream with delight on the big roller coaster, getting off dizzy but smiling, and immediately wanting to go back for more.

Skating Fun at Butler Skate Land

Another favorite was Butler Skate Land. Our kids absolutely loved skating, showing off their moves, and creating their own dance routines. One of the most fun traditions was forming a “skate train,” where everyone held onto each other’s waist or shirt, moving together in a big line. It was wonderful to see the older kids, younger kids, and even the staff joining in and enjoying the activity together. The laughter and joy in the rink made it a day to remember.

Building Community at the Brewers Game

One of the most anticipated events every year is our trip to the Brewers game. This outing isn’t just about watching baseball; it’s about building a stronger community. We enjoyed classic ballpark treats like Dippin’ Dots, hot dogs, and nachos while cheering on the Brewers, who treated us to a win! The day was filled with chants, the wave, and lots of smiles, as kids, parents, and staff bonded over the shared experience. This event helps turn our camp into a family, fostering relationships that go beyond just dropping kids off in the morning.

Making Memories That Last

What really stood out this year were the incredible responses from our kids and parents. Many of our campers shared that they had never been on so many field trips or experienced places like Bay Beach or a Brewers game before. One camper told us, “I’ve never been on so many field trips in my life! Every Wednesday was a new adventure.” Parents expressed their gratitude, saying things like, “You all go on more field trips than any other program I know. My child has never been happier, and we wouldn’t think of sending them anywhere else.”

Why These Trips Matter

These outings aren’t just about having fun; they’re about giving our kids experiences that they wouldn’t normally have. From the thrill of a roller coaster to the simple joy of skating with friends, these trips help our campers see the world in new ways, build friendships, and gain confidence. It’s about creating memories and building a community that feels like family.

We are so proud of the impact these field trips have on our students and their families. Knowing that we are providing opportunities and experiences that enrich their lives is what drives us to keep pushing forward. We can’t wait to see where our adventures will take us next year!

Thank you to all the parents, staff, and volunteers who make these experiences possible. We couldn’t do it without you, and we’re looking forward to many more amazing memories in the years to come!
